This is far too long a read for someone unfamiliar with the material.
April 24, 2011 wikileaks reveals we’ve known since 2008 that the courier was in Abbottabad, PK, where the detainee, another courier, was picked up by Pakistan in 2005, then transferred to Gitmo in 2006.
(April 27, 2011 long form birth certificate released in a highly publicized press conference, listing the nationality of father)
May 1, 2011 Hitler dies, I mean Obama, I mean Osama. Obama gives his Mission Accomplished (By Me, and My actions, but mostly, Me!) Acceptance Speech to a mix of adoring fans, and cynical critics.
To date: No one has answered how he can be President if his father was never a U.S. citizen. “oh, it’s too complicated.” “we’ve got more important things to do.” “it depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is.” “we don’t have time for that silliness that’s in the Constitution.” “Are you serious? Are you serious?”
I’m from Detroit. Other places might have the same hometown pride as Detroiters do, but Detroiters definitely have a heaping dose of hometown pride. I was thinking about my hometown of Detroit last night while watching the Tigers lose, and it dawned on me what Natural allegiance is. It’s that feeling I get when I recognise that big Old English D on the uniform.
For awhile, I thought to myself, isn’t The Natural Born clause in violation of the principle from The Declaration of Independence’s “All men are created equal” beginning. In the context of that feeling I had when I saw that Tiger’s D on the uniform, I realised why it’s not in conflict. I was raised in Detroit. That allegiance was something that grew from being around other Detroiters. That’s not something you’re born with.
…the blog has had a lot more hits since I’ve started writing about it. Thanks, kind readers, and feel free to leave a comment.
Personally, when I heard Congress was going to read the Constitution before they convened, I was hopeful. But now, people who have read, and understand The Constitution are raising an absolutely valid point, and being treated as Pariahs for it. That, more than anything else, well okay, maybe not more than anything else, but it really, really, really pisses me off.
Chances are if you’re being labeled a birther, it’s because you’ve done some research, and comprehended the issue better than the bullies who are marginalizing you as a fringe lunatic. I fucking hate bullies. But don’t be a target, either.
For whatever reason, which I strongly object to, the current president is being allowed to set this president. Did I mention I object to the precedent that’s being set? I also happen to dislike the current president, but that is not what is driving this. There’s slim chance he’ll be removed from office before January, 2013, but if so, all the better, as far as I’m concerned.
The people researching this eligibility issue have done enough high caliber research, that I believe this issue will come up again. I would like absolute elucidation of the case. I would like it perfectly clear 100 years from now, that the people have agreed on this issue, that Natural Born means what it says.
Anyway, wrote more than I would’ve, but discovering that a few people are actually reading this, got me on a little bit of a roll.
for the person searching: “obama birth certificate non issue”
You’re right, now that he’s released his long form certificate, his father’s nationality is documented as a being a non-U.S. citizen. The certificate wasn’t the issue, the nationality of his parents *is* the issue. Thanks for stopping by.
It might seem macabre to feel relief that Osama bin Laden has purportedly been finally located and killed. Relief is pretty much the feeling across much of the world, (excepting Hamas, for the moment).
When I read the White House press release, I noticed the way they framed the temporal details of the intelligence they’d gathered: “post 9/11 detainee”, “Four years ago, “in August, 2010”. Vague, becoming more specific. Okay, so I looked into it. I’m like that.
When the identity of the courier was finally learned in 2007, (“Four years ago”), from a “post 9/11 detainee”, Senator Obama was in Texas, arguing to close Guantanamo. In January, 2009, President Obama signed an Executive Order to close Guantanamo in one year. In August 2010, as many servicemen had been killed on Obama’s 20 month watch, as had been in President Bush’s 8 years as Commander in Chief. Also, in August, 2010, intelligence learned the location of the residence where Osama was staying. On May 1, 2011, Osama bin Laden is reportedly dead.
Ironically, Obama is now widely credited with the successful result of the intelligence program he opposed for years.
Take a bow, Senator Obama, at least you changed direction on Gitmo when you realised you were dead wrong. Or when you realised you could use this to political advantage, as the case may be, either way.
It appears Osama bin Laden has been dealt with, which is a huge psychological boost for a world weary of islamic fundamentalist terrorism. Today’s a day to remember. The struggle isn’t over, but we can all hope this is a huge turning point.
It appears wikileaks released classified documents from gitmo on April 24, 2011, which indicate that the location of bin Laden’s designated courier with Pakistan was in Abbottabad, PK. He was arrested there in 2005, transferred to Gitmo in 2006.
One week later, on May 1, 2011, Osama bin Laden is reported dead.
Yes, and no.
Yes, if everyone is on the same page about the fundamental fact the current president is constitutionally disqualified from the position he holds. It’s likely he’ll serve out his current term, unfortunately, for those of us who feel we’ve been defrauded in the worst possible way. But it’s important for people to realise this has happened, and must never happen again.
There are currently people who want to remove the eligibility requirement from the constitution. They will want to do it quietly, while no-one is looking, not when everyone is discussing it. That’s significant. By not acknowledging that an error was made, the process of weakening the eligibility requirement has a precedent. A pretty damned strong precedent. Don’t profess your love of the Constitution, if you don’t have the fortitude to defend it.
And, while immigration remains one of the unresolved issues of the day, if you don’t understand what the various types of citizenship are, or entail, your opinions are going to be, well, to put it nicely, less informed.
This whole train wreck got rolling from a combination of factors that should never have left the station to begin with. Be informed, and don’t be silent, or one Constitutional crossing at a time, this train will unmake our country’s founding principles.
No, for reasons I’ll continue to write about, as they come to me.
hehe, by all appearances, this looks like a “Oh, Snap!, Let’s Cover Our Asses.” memo. Just sayin’.
How to handle questions from people who’ve actually read the Constitution:
