suburban white boy cred

they say appreciating what you have is key to happiness. I remember a guy who I worked with who grew up in a nice suburb, and he was damn grateful for the better education and etc he grew up with. and I recall how back in the day, “street cred” was what was considered important. got me thinking, growing up in the ‘burbs was considered a bad thing, and probably many a white boy grew up ashamed and downplaying the good things he had going for him. that’s just whacked. Instead of honouring what was good, being embarrassed and ashamed of it, ‘cuz it wasn’t the cool thing. Instead of being grateful for the good things, developing a sense of self-loathing, ‘cuz pop culture makes fun of you. pop culture is an ass.
