We Used To Say “Life’s Not Fair”

We used to teach children
That life’s not fair
Now we teach
The system is stacked against them
We teach ’em we need politicians
To make things more fair
Things like “level the playing field”
And at the end of the day
We have more bureaucrats
Running our lives
And life’s still not fair

Now we’re working for the bureaucrats
And life’s still not fair
We changed laws to favour one over another
and we wonder why
life’s not fair
We take from one
to give to another
and that’s not ever going to be fair
to the person we’re taking it from

But go ahead with your campaign
To try to make life more fair
It’ll just create another injustice
Bureaucrats decide the fates of the people
And that’s just not fair
Your special interest
Needs special exceptions
At the expense of
A less favoured interest
But you’re serving your own self interest
How can I expect you to care?
That your special self-interest
Is making mine less fair?

You raise your children
That it’s okay to hate
Certain people because of who they are
You teach your children
That it’s okay to hate
Privileged white men
Because life’s not fair

You teach your children
To hate
And that’s not fair
To the people
They grow up hating

You teach your children to hate
And that’s not fair
To the children you teach to hate
Teach them instead
That life’s not fair
