Federal Lands: This Land Is Our Land, This Land’s Not Your Land

In 1934 the federal government changed from settling public lands, (turning them over to private owners), to managing the public lands. I always wondered why so much of the west remained federal land, rather than settled, as was the original intent.

INteresting, if you just read the final passed wording, and don’t read the notes, you might not guess what the purpose was: to dispose of unappropriated lands of the United States.
