Id, Ego, SuperEgo – Getting Back To Basics

I took a psych class in juniour college, and wasn’t really as impressed with the Freudian analysis as I was impressed with the neuroscience aspect, which is what the teacher emphasized, but maybe it’s time I took a closer look at the language that describes all of this stuff I’ve been reading up on.

Freud stressed that the first five years of life are crucial to the formation of adult personality.

Some people do not seem to be able to leave one stage and proceed on to the next.

Fixation refers to the theoretical notion that a portion of the individual’s libido has been permanently ‘invested’ in a particular stage of his development.
