“White Privilege” And Choosing To Be Grateful And Content Over Discontent

The fundamental flaw in the “white privilige” narrative is that it is entirely based on comparing yourself to someone else based on a single characteristic. I’m speaking in very general terms right now, because I just want to get the thought down in writing. Everything I’ve read in all of the self-help type quotes we’ve all seen on facebook leads me to believe that comparing yourself to someone else leads to unhappiness. So why would you do that? Whether it’s women comparing salaries to men’s or blacks comparing skin colour to whites, the inevitable seeming result is going to be dissatisfaction. So, why do that? The other type of facebook self help post we’ve all seen by now is “learn to count your blessings”, “have a grateful heart”; things along those lines.
